Extreme Lag all of a Sudden

All my games were running fine until about 2 weeks ago.(Far cry doom 3 cs source etc..)
Then out of nowhere the games just stop while im playing. Not choppy like if your pc wasnt up to it but the game just stops in all games even call of duty.

Your playing the game its runnng perfect then it stops the whole computer stops responding then goes back to playing normally for a few seconds the stops again.

The computer is running fine in windows and ive done loads of disk defragments and disk clean ups registry cleans etc... and no improvement.

I dont know whats wrong please help.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ps: the computer is spotless no dust in sight.

The card isnt oc'ed its a golden sample so its on enhanced settings.Btw is 59 degrees to hot for the cpu on boot up.

Ya 59 on boot is quite hot. I've got a winnie 3200+ @ 2448 mhz that never goes over 50 degrees with stock cooling. Have you measured load temps with prime95 or some other cpu intensive program?

Yeah, 59C is disgustingly hot... especially for boot up.

I think I've had that temperature when it was 90F ambient, I had been gaming and encoding then multitasking (read: 14 applications plus 10 or more Firefox windows), then disk checking and defragging, without restarting or anything for a couple of days. Everything on my computer was hot to the touch... the case, my iPod, my mouse, my keyboard, and my CRT (I think it took some damage from the heat).

In other words, in the worst possible conditions, I've seen 60C -- you've got it during boot up.

Get some Arctic Silver 5 and a nice custom heatsink. Alternatively, refit the heatsink onto the CPU with a fresh application of some thermal paste/pad and manage your cables for better airflow. Keep the ambient temperatures down and give the computer a few hours of downtime, then try again.

Keep us posted.

Temperture could be a problem but it was fine 2 weeks ago i didnt change anything and it just started freezing. The case is usually cold. GPU about 60 while typing this.

Thanks for reply.

Viruses/worms/Trojans come to mind. What do you have for...

Windows version and service pack level (WinXP Pro SP2 or whatever)

Hardware firewall

Software firewall

Antivirus software

My computer is clean of viruses and spyware i have XOFTSPY for spyware and mcafee for viruses i have windows sp2.

I would say its temp related because the games dont stall straight away the longer u play the worse it gets as the computer gets hotter.

Thanks for help, ill keep u posted if its not the temp.

Thanks.

Yah its overheating i removed the side panel of the cases the temperatures dropped about 20 degrees and i ran the games and they ran perfect.

What cpu cooler would you recomend and would it be a good idea to install 1 or 2 fans in the side of the case.

Thanks for help.

i have one of these

my cpu temps are 35C idle and 45C full load.

if you want to go all out, get one of these for your video card.

i noticed a dramatic decrease in temps on my 6800 gt. good luck with lowering your temps. 🙂

WOAH!!!
You're seriously kidding rihgt? I don't think you need a new CPU cooler*, you definately need new case fans!

*Although, it would be helpful for your overclocking if you got one.

Panaflo L1A for quietness (search Cases and Cooling section for my review)
Panaflo M1A for cooling (and somewhat quiet)

What case do you have?
-The Pentium Guy

Coolermaster wavemaster case it says in signature
System temp is 27 idle thats the ways it was for ages until i got the problem any reason y it would raise to 35.

Temperatures are fine with panel off. What case fans would you recomend but theres one problem with the case u cant get at the front fans so cant tell if there jammed only small amount of air coming from them.

Thanks.

Btw:there crappy sleeve fans.

Thanks again.

Leave the side panels off and forget about it. I have run my computers this way for decades. It JUST works.

Only problem is if you've got kids in the house. Also, bugs can get in, also if you spill something that's it. Risky 😉.

Check the direction that your fans are blowing. Front fans should blow rearwards, rear fans should blow rearwards too. If they're fighting against eachother, that could explain your high case temperatures.

Yah fans blowing in right directions. I still have to buy cpu cooler and artic 5 termal paste.
Cpu temp at about 40 now on idle. After a night of rest it starts on about 19 degrees the system is temp is back down to the low 20s.

Thanks for replys

BTW ANANDTECH ROCKS

The ventilation characteristics of that chassis must not be very good then, if your CPU temperature drops 20C when you take the side panel off. 🙁 I know it's a good-looking case, but it's getting spanked by my sub-$50 Antec SLK3000-B in the cooling department.

There's gotta be something wrong. Are the fans working? Did you put them on a temperature controlled power connector like Antec has on their power supplies? There's no way taking off the side panel should make a 20 degrees C difference unless you don't have ANY case fans... or the ones you do have aren't working.

I dont know whats wrong, there not on the temperture control power connector.Should i put them on it. Its just the cpu temp that is bad.I had to remove my cpu before because of a faulty mobo. The only termal paste i could get was some crappy coolermaster paste. Which doesnt seem to work well.

Thanks for replys ill report back
