Extreme engineering at its extremiest.

There's been a discovery documentary special about this, it's pretty nifty to see how they're making this island.

what about that floating airport in Japan or china? I forget where it is, but it was on that engineering program on NGC

I think Tokyo also has an artifical island airport. Actually if you look at Tokyo now compared to 100 years ago ALOT of land has been added around the harbor over time, its pretty amazing.

As for dubai, check out the Burj Dubai, its gonna be 160+ stories last I checked, I think right now they are around the 90th story in construction, so in a few months it will be the tallest building on earth. And by the end it will be the tallest freestanding structure, even taller than the tallest radio towers!!

This has been posted before ...But yes, those islands are beautiful.. Flew over them in a single engine aircraft and they are just breathtaking from 1500 feet!

Oh cool, I've seen the picture of Palm Islands before with no explanation and now I know what the heck it is.

The documentary of it's making was definitely interesting. One of the engineering obstacles was insufficient water flow which caused a number of problems regarding water quality, waste removal, etc. The problem was solved by cutting into the greater circle using the two cuts you see in the picture.
