I have a x99 delux (2101 ver bios)with i7 5960xcpu, 16 Gb Corsair ddr4 (2666) and samsung pro 950 ssd 256Gb. It is taking about 15 minutes to Boot but when booted in Windows 10 works fine.

Could anyone help me understand whats wrong?

I originally tried too install Windows 7 via USB stick but it took over an hour to boot up so bought new version of Windows 10. Reset BIOS before installing. As above, boots quicker but not the fast speed I expected!

I just completed a build using the Asus x99-PRO/USB3.1 motherboard with BIOS 2101 and it taking nearly a minute to boot. I am also using the Samsung 950 Pro and booting Win10 Home from it. Both my laptops running Win10 boot in about 20 seconds so I'm more than a little bummed by the slow boot times.

My configuration included two 6TB WD Black HD's as storage and I made sure the Samsung 950 Pro is first in the boot list. By my observation Windows doesn't even begin to load until about 35 seconds. There has to be something screwed up in the BIOS settings or BIOS version 2101 is crap.

Do we have a pointer to a detailed procedure to optimize BIOS on the x99 boards?

There are probably fast boot options in the BIOS but that bypasses some of the POST. X79 was slow to boot compared to its contemporary chipsets. There's just more to initialize (quad channel, PCIe lanes...).

X58 was even slower. I'd disable everything that is not needed in BIOS to speed it up a bit. Don't expect it to be as fast as 115x or your laptop.

How fast is it now? Have you tried running with minimal hardware to see if it's another problem?
