Extra SETI crhuncher boxes dirt cheap!

Found this over on the hot deals forum. 2.6ghz celeron, 80 gig HD, 256mb ram, and a cd burner (w00t.)

Nothing spectacular, but for $200, that's not bad at all. Just a heads up for anyone looking for a super-cheap cruncher box.

That celeron will do a paltry few Wus/day....2.6ghz celerons < everything by what i've heard.

I know some ppl w/ 2.2 ghz celerons i believe are getting 5-7 hrs/WU!!!

I say, do what i did:

go to FS/FT or just scan newegg...

1700+ for like 40-50 bucks (or conversely 70 for barton), decent mobo : 50-90 bucks, 512 MB corsair C2 ram ( 70-90 bucks)...toss in everything else scavenged or dirt cheap crap like case, psu, paltry 20GB hd for like 35 bucks, etc.). it will eat that system..then again that IS a "full sytem" while my idea would be anywhere from 180-300 depending on what u want

Or network boot using something like ClusterKnoppix, with the win client under WINE 🙂

Actually, 2.2ghz Celerons are getting WU's in 7-8hrs best...... they suck big time, and Ive tested this on 40 of them
