Hi,

I built a new PC and installed a SEASONIC PRIME 1300W 80 PLUS as the power supply. I usually buy an external power regulator to insert between the PC and power outlet to regulate the 110 volt AC current and protect my investement ( $8000 PC). Is that needed or does the SEASONIC PRIME 1300W 80 PLUS already take care of regulating the current? Should I just buy a surge protector? If an extra power regulator such as a UPS is needed, do you have any recommendation?
Thank you in advance for your help.

The PSU is spec'd capable of 100V to 240V. If you need to keep using your system during a brownout or power outage to save data or remain productive then get a line interactive or online UPS.

If instead, your only concern is protecting the investment from power surges, you only need a good surge protector. If you need both, get both.

It would be hard to make a recommendation for an UPS when you have a 1300W PSU but no idea of what the system + (monitor or whatever that also needs to stay powered) actually uses and how long you need it to run in a power outage event, nor whether your site has brownouts.

What does "I usually buy an external power regulator" mean? If you already have one, why is it not going to be reused or is it just too low a capacity for this new system build or what other issue is keeping you from continuing to do what has worked for you in the past?

Considering that you must have a fair amount of disposable income to build an $8K PC, I would sooner get a whole premises surge protection solution that helps to protect all your valuable electronics, not just the PC, but if the PC is on a mains circuit not far isolated from something with a significant size motor in it (appliances) then I'd also have redundant surge protection between the wall outlet and the PC.
