Well learned that you can't really O/C a BH7 that has 2 memory sticks. So the question then becomes what are the relative performance benfits of an extra 512MB of RAM vs. O/C this rig to 3.X Ghz?

Any thoughts?

Why cant you overclock with 2 sticks? That is not a problem with 845PE boards.

You shouldn't have problem oc'ing with 2 sticks with BH-7 (I had no problem running 2x512MB XMS @180+fsb). Are you sure it's not your chip? May be you're using 4:5 or 3:4 memory setting? You should only use 1:1 ratio since your memory is PC2700 (166fsb)...

Having said that, it depends what you use your rig for... If it's a simple everday usage plus gaming, I think 512MB should be enough. If you do AV stuff a lot, then I'll say 1GB... :)

If I read your message right, you already have 1gig of RAM (2ea 512MB PC2700, if you mean 512 total then that's still pretty good). And hell, your processor is a screamer too, and you have a kickin' vid card. SOunds like you are in good shape right now.

I wouldn't buy any more RAM at this point (unless you do 3D modeling, etc..) Try to o/c it if you want some more speed, but I think your rig is quite respectable as it is.

If money is burning a hole in your pocket, then buy a DVD burner :)

keep the overclock, sell one of the RAM sticks. an extra 512 will no way match the 500MHz overclock.
512 is more than enough unless you are doing some heavy file manipulation. In that case I would just upgrade to a GB stick. I'm surprised that your 9700 is letting you oc so high.

nice computer though.
