This looks like the ultimate (price-wise) sound insulation material. Called "Pergo SilentStep", it's a roll of thin foam that costs $64 cents per square foot! Compare that to $30 or so for Dynamat!

They sell it at HomeDepot, I think it's only available in rolls, and the roll is $65 or so. You can cover your appartment with that much material, let alone your case :)

If anyone tried this, please let me know if it helped reduce the noise.

"Pergo SilentStep? Premium Underlayment
The newest premium underlayment that is quick and easy to install, provides maximum walking comfort and significantly reduces impact sound. "

Interesting idea. It's intended use is padding underneath Pergo flooring, but you never know!

Heheh, I'll say the same thing as Jeffrey, it's used for flooring sound insulation, I don't think it actually blocks sounds if used as a sound-proof insulator on walls for much louder noise like from speakers, when it's intended to block impact noise from foot steps.. Or I am I interpreting this wrong?

I think the only "sound insulation" this stuff gives, is protection against the pergo boards banging on your underflooring as you walk across the room ... :)

Sounds like more like clever marketing than anything else... This stuff is just thin foam like you sometimes find computer parts wrapped in.

Dynamat actually doesn't work very well. If you need something, try Mineral Fiber, sometimes called RockWool, or Compresses Fiberglass, such as Owens COrning's Type 700 series.

Those product are more insolation products towards heat/cold. I guess they would damper some sounds aswell, but do you want to capsule the heat from the cpu?

They work for heat and sound.

They are marketed for sound.

They are almost perfect absorbers of Sound above 500hz.

VBboy never said what he was using it for.

I hope it isn't for a case.

There are better solutions, such ass getting a quieter fan.

Merkon,
Owens Corning type 700 series refers to a brand of fiberglass, which can be found at the OwensCorning web site.

Mineral Fiber and rockwool are material types, and can be found with any search engine.
