I have one of these drives, I payed around $120 for mine. Great external hard drive.
The 1.5TB version on amazon is the same price and the 1TB version is $20 cheaper, so buying the 2TB version is really a no brainer.

Not sure, I only plug mine in when I copy data to it, afterwards I unplug it. I googled it and it seems like it does go into sleep mode, link below:

Just got the 2TB deal at Target.
Al the WD external drives I've used go to sleep after a while, I can always hear them spinning up and there's a noticeable pause in access.
