External WD Hard Drive and Backup Software Recommendation?

I recently purchased a 120 GB Western Digital external hard drive to use to back up my other systems.

I noticed it came formatted as a FAT drive.

I used the backup software to try to backup the drives from a couple of my other computers, but I hit the 4GB limit in FAT32 when trying to backup to a file on the external drive.

First, what backup software should I be using to backup my hard drives? Recommendations?

Second, should I convert the external drive to NTFS?
