Does anyone know how much data these external PCI-E cables can transfer?

I thought the bandwidth was limited to PCI-E x1?

If the data rate has become greater does anyone else think combining quiet laptop CPUs and multi-monitors could open a whole new door to custom video card enclosures?

Sounds like the Bandwidth is limited to x8 PCI-E 2.0.

I can't wait until I can swap my gpu between desktop and laptop. Desktop for home, integrated for portable, external gpu for lan party / vacation / business trips

According to this ATI is claiming the proprietary XGP connector will be included on more notebooks starting this year.

Now if only that same proprietary connector could be used for other devices besides external video cards.
