Picked up Circuit City's Nexxtech external enclosure for my 250gb hdd. this drive worked well in a kingwin external enclosure but i wanted a new look.

this new enclosure is being detected by my toshiba m55 laptop but i think the usb2.0 might be underpowered since the detected usb mass storage device is gone soon after being detected. i don't understand though since the drive has a separate power source.

anyone know what i can about this? other than exchanging for a new one that is...

Have you verified that the separate power source is working? Is the hard drive properly/securely connected inside the enclosure? Possibly the power connector/IDE cable came loose?

USB external drives often demand a separate external power source. If that doesn't work, then I suspect the external case is a lemon. Try a different one.
