External USB DVDRW on FreeBSD 6.0

I have an external enclosure from vipower for burning dvd in an toshiba notebook. even though everyting is set as said in the handbook, i get no burning at al. even reading a simple cdrom :(

Are you trying to mount a data cd, music cd, data cdr, music cdr, etc.? Did you try specifying the filesystem?

the dmesg entry is up there.

when i tried to mount using mount_cd9660 it did succeed. but even though i cant burn any dvd-r :(

i get umass0: Unsupported ATAPI command 0x46 everytime i try to use it as a burner.

No wonder it doesn't work, your dmesg is too short.

Did you check the cdrecord or whatever it's called supported hardware list?

This might help. Not sure, I didn't read the entire thing.

i read the link you pointed, the guy kind had the same problem, but noone there said anything that solved the problem.

Are you sure this model of drive is supported by the software you're trying to record with? The error message "umass0: Unsupported ATAPI command 0x46" kinda makes me think there are issues. Is it using the latest firmware?

well, it works in slackware 10.1 through normal ide mode and usb the way it is. also tested in slackware 10.2. allways using growisofs.

i installed k3b using the ports method, and it recognizes the dvdrw. but every try to make it read info from it returns an error.

Try loading cdrecord or something and try that. Maybe FreeBSD's growisofs is an older version or something...

What error does k3b return?

sorry for the delay ...

i'll use k3b and copy here the error.

meanwhile i used cvsup to use 6.0-stable and did all that make buildworld process.

even in stable, no changes ... and no writting :(
