External USB drive keeps reconnecting

I put an internal drive into an enclosure recently and it keeps reconnecting to my PC. If I happen to be using something from the drive, it basically freezes. Is there any way to keep the drive connected?

My first question. Is the device self-powered by USB connection or by AC connection?

If AC power, your enclosure maybe at fault.
If USB, there is not enough power to run device from USB connection to computer.
I use an external pocket drive and it has a double connector for USB. THe main connection to USB maybe enough to run the unit, but if it isn't, there's a pigtail connector that can be plugged into another USB port for more.

It's powered with an AC connection and uses USB 2.0. I just got it, and it seems like sometimes it keeps refreshing often, yet at other times it'll go for an extended period of time without refreshing... Every time it refreshes a windows pops up saying something like "What do you want Windows do to with your H: drive?" and shows a list of junk... I disabled autoplay to no avail. This is really getting to be annoying, is there no way to fix this?

IMO, It sounds like You might have now a problem with your harddrive. If possible, can you get another harddrive to see whether your hdd is at fault.

It's hard to diagnose from afar, so basically you have the job. I hope this helps.
