External USB Drive Case - Drive Won't Mount

I have an IDE drive in a Nexxtech external USB case, but neither Windows or Mac OS X can mount this drive.

I could swear I had this drive working in this case until now.

If I cable up this particular drive as a slave internally, it performs just fine and Windows can see this drive.

If I put the drive back in the external USB case, Windows gives me the "da-DINK" system alert, and a few minutes later I get the "DA-dink" sound that a USB drive has been disconnected.

Why doesn't Windows recognize this drive? Windows can see that a USB drive has been connected

The pin settings are the same for an internal SLAVE and and external drive, correct?

How can I troubleshoot this device? What can I check?

Thanks.

Welcome to anandtech. There's something wrong with your external enclosure. You'll need to take/send it back.
