or a good antenna. Of course you're not going to get good reception off a 1/4" receptor off the back of the card. You might need some old rabbit ears or something, but I don't see him mentioning that he doesn't have cable.

I bought a $50 powered antenna and I only get 1 station, barely. I've owned 3 tv tuners.

I mean clear.

Because the avermedia that I had doesn't seem clear enough. Its even worst than a TV.

Is there a fire wire TV tuner?

I do not mind its external or internal, as long as it works.

I can just see it now - a laptop with a pair of rabbit ears on top of it. :D

I own a Nextvision N6 made by Viewsonic that features component input. It looks great on a cable signal or antenna, but dvd's dont look too hot even with a progressive scan dvd player. Digital signals are going to look blocky and pixilated on a high resolution monitor. But it doesnt have a way to input a signal for capture if thats what you are looking for, its just a input to the monitor so it might not work with a laptop. Not sure if this helps, but its all ive got.

I replied a while back about a Pinnecle USB 2.0 tuner that came out recently. It features MPEG2 compression ....it may also have better video quality since it has a bigger bus to push the video through. USB 1.1 doesn't really have the bandwidth needed for quality video. Does your system feature 2.0?

Here is the link....

Also keep in mind that ATI is coming out with a new chipset that allows Digital Cable and Satelite tuning. Im not sure how far along this is though.

If you are going to play dvds on it, why not get an external firewire dvd player. If you just want the input connections, get a dazzle video capture. They have s-video, rca, etc and some have firewire. You should be able to play video through that.

If you are trying to save a few bucs by going the tv card route and i am assuming a dvd player meant for tvs, you might be out of luck in hoping to get dvd quality.

If you already have an internal dvd player in another computer, just take it out and get a firewire/usb2.0 enclosure and it will work fine.

If you got the AIW 9700 pro....it would be definately better compared to USB (just not sure about compared to USB 2.0 stuff). Of course, your asking about a laptop right? No AIW's for laptops that I know of have been made recently.

I had a Hauppauge WinTV USB PVR and it worked pretty well, it was just overkill for what I wanted.

I was going to suggest something similar... if you're not using it for TV, forget the TV tuner and concentrate on a VIDEO CAPTURE device, either USB2.0, firewire, or PCMCIA.

No suggestions for a quality product at this point, but it'll help focus your search.

Sorry for making things unclear.

Basically, its like this:

We are going to have a LIVE input. The input that we have has DVD quality. Basically, we plan to control what is on our 400 inch rear projection screen with our COMPUTER. So we could do PICTURE and PICTURE with good quality from COMPUTER and VIDEO signal.

That is why I am searching for a Device that can ALLOW me to connect the LIVE VIDEO INPUT to the computer.

-----
Extra Info:
The Canapus Video Capture, capture great video. But it only work with Adobe Premier which do not allow a Special Window let us make the "FAKE" picture in picture special effect. Because it only work in Adobe Premier. Unlike the one we had with Avermedia, u can move around the Window that has Video input. Thanks

Well, most projector units will not only accept VGA signals but also S-video, RGB, and composite video too....

Can't you just plug this "source" straight into the projector?

If it is to play DVD's, then just get a normal usb turner i guess. I do not know how the cost is, but for $60, you can get an external video capture kit, at sam's club, that will let you feed the DVD player in live.
