External Storage 3TB or 4TB - Buy External HDD, or Build with HDD and Enclosure?

Doing some work for a client and want to give them a local storage device to go with their cloud solution. However, when researching on NewEgg, the pre-built external HDDs are from weird mfrs like Lacie or Fantom - names I've never heard before. This makes me nervous and feel like I should just build them an external drive with an enclosure and a regular desktop HDD.

Presuming that is the best solution (please tell me if you think it is not), I need recommendations on the following:

  1. Enclosure - No ideas here. The brands seem as bizarre as thos on the full external HDDs (Unitek, Icy Dock, StarTech, Orico, etc.)
  2. Drive(s) -Seagate or WD? 3TB or 4TB? Model number(s)?
Any and all help is appreciated. 🙂

They're just brands for the enclosure, the internal drive is a standard HDD made by Seagate or another brand. Lacie has been around for a long time in external enclosures.

I personally prefer Vantec NexStar external cases loaded with a good WD HDD.
