I just saw link this on Bluesnews:

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/299

I have *no* idea about the quality of this PSU, but the concept is really cool. It's silent (no fans) and doesn't heat up your case. It also has an LCD that lists temp, voltages and output wattage.

EDIT:
I wonder if you can trust a $60 PSU that claims to be 600W...

They don't state the price...I just saw the $60 on a stupid advertising link to TigerDirect.

This PSU will be mighty expensive: $199 & out of stock at Newegg.

Awesome! Hopefully I'll see some more reviews of this thing before I'm ready to build another system in ~6months.

Before getting all excited about MGE plz take a look at the pics in this linked review of one of their PSUs.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/display/psu-roundup_10.html

Note: NO TIM between the full-zoot heat pipe sink and it's base. Oh, that's good build practice...Right.

The whole review is worth the read. MGE seems to put form way before function. But form rules for some, if that's the case, go MGE after reading this good review site's take on two of their PSUs.

External power has been around and used in servers for ages now. It is a make sense solution, but not for the sake of being quiet. What you gain in quiet you quickly give up in performance for size in units not pushing air through themselves for cooling. this is especially true the longer you run the unit and the air directly around it heats up.

I went to Peltier my CPU and was going to use a Antec power supply to run it. The Antec had specs of 28 amps on the +12 volt side of life, yet it would not pull the load of the Peltier and I ended up getting this...

http://www.dangerdenstore.com/home.php?cat=32

It is rated at 24 amps and it DID pull the load!
