running win98se HP version.

Try disabling touchpad in BIOS (generally, you can find options to disable touchpad when ps/2 mouse is installed or run touchpad all the time, regardless of whether or not a ps/2 mouse is available).

Weird...with all the laptops we use here at my school (Gateways and HPs), all you have to do is just plug in the mouse and start using it. No drivers to install, no nothing. Did you try to do that, or did Windows force you to install drivers for it?

when i plug in the mouse, it sort of move and freeze and move and freeze

so I intall the driver manuelly
but it did not work

Ladi: thanks, I will check if i am able to disable it from bios or not.

My thinkpad 600 does not like ps/2 wheel mouse, even if the trackball is disabled it just goes crazy. A regular ps/2 mouse is no problem for it though, I don't even disable the trackball.
