External monitor won't wake up after sleep

I'm using a Dell 23" external monitor with a Dell Latitude E6400 laptop. When I allow the laptop to go into sleep mode the external monitor won't wake up until 5-15 minutes later.

I was using this same monitor with my old Inspirion laptop and it worked fine with it.

Any help will be appreciated.

Does the laptop have an AMD/ATI discrete video card, with the 14.4 drivers? Could be the monitor sleep mode bug in the AMD drivers. Try 13.12 WHQL, those worked for me with a HIS 7790 1GB card.

Actually its got an Nvidia/Intel GPU chip, although they have their own wake from sleep issues as well. Its most likely a bug, a bug that Nvidia or Intel has known about for a long time and don't care to fix because your a little person like all the rest of us little people. They sold you the product, the money is in their hands and your contribution is now irrelevant.

It's an Intel processor.
