External Monitor not displaying w/laptop

Hello! I have an Acer Aspire 5736Z model (yes, it's quite prehistoric, lol) that works quite fine. However, the screen of that laptop is cracked so it needs a replacement. I tried using an external monitor with the laptop but nothing shows up on it. When I turn in the laptop you can barely see anything on its screen aside from a few flashing images of the logo and the login screen.

Does anyone know why my external monitor won't display and how I can fix this?

P.S. Keep in mind that I can hardly see a thing on the laptop now. Thanks.

Using FN + F5 should toggle yr screen/external monitor. Try it.

Just in case Fn F5 does not work try Win Key + P then use your arrow key to change displays in Win 7
