Hi, I am having a big problem with my computer. I just bought a new mouse. It's Samsung that is PS/2 one. Before this, I used the logitech mouse ( not the PS/2 or the USB one but the older one, the serial one) and it never conflicted with my external modem (serial port). Since I changed it to Samsung PS/2, the computer can't detect my modem. If I take off my mouse then the modem will work fineand vice versa. So what is wrong with it? Please I need help desperately since I need to get online with my comp. I am using my brother's comp to post this message. Thanks a lot for all the suggestions in advance.

Darno

nb: I am using Win Me.

It appears that your PS2 mouse port (it's really a serial port also)
may be using the same IRQ as your COM port.
Most computers have 2 COM ports plus 2 PS2 ports (mouse and keyboard).
If you're using the PS2 mouse port both COM ports should be available to you for your external modem. If the COM port you're using now for the external modem is conflicting with your mouse, change the modem to the other COM port........Greg

You have to access your computer "setup" - the bios. Certain bios setups have an "auto" feature for the ps/2 mouse. That can be also changed to off or on. You can also disable the old mouse com port to give the modem a possible port to go to other than the ps/2 irq. The PS/2 mouse port is locked at irq12. There is a feature in most bios setups under PCI or PNP setup that will let you turn off the PnP operating system if you have it turned on - this will let the bios assign irq's and not the OS - WinME in this case.

This should put you on your way to your solution.

have you fixed it yet?
Sound to me aswell that you are having conflicts. your mouse and modem both wanting the same com port (or are they on com 1 and com3, that would not work).
Change your setting in the bios so that your com 3 becomes com 2 or com 4.

I fixed it already. What I did was changing the serial connection. before I used the serial the big one and the I changed and use the small one that we usually used for the mouse seral. I fixed that just by changing that setting. thanks for all who help me.
