External Mirrored Array Setup (RAID 1) - eSATA or USB 3.0?

I am going with a Mini ITX setup, so my mirrored array that was once internal (previously 2 x 1TB, new will be 2 x 2TB, 3TB, or 4TB) will now need to be external. So, what's a good setup?

I'm thinking an external enclosure to house the two drives, externally powered. My new MB has USB 3.0 and eSATA external connectors. Has anyone set anything up like this?

I've used external eSATA enclosures, but had problems with drives dropping out. Eventually moved back to all-internal drives. I'm one data point though - lots of people using external enclosures very happily.

One thing I'd point out is that eSATA usually isn't hot swappable, but USB usually is. (Might be a consideration if your system is within toddler's reach or something.)

But personally, I think you need a Fractal Node 304. (ITX case, 6 3.5" HD bays.)
