External IDE to USB CDRW

HELP!!
I just purchase this CDRW External Case for IDE drives. However, I cannot get it to work with my laptop or desktop. I've tried the drivers that come with the unit, but to no avail. Any Hints? I know there is power going to the CDRW because when the USB cable IS NOT plug in I can open and close the tray. However, when I do plug it in the power is cut from the CDRW. The driver, I assume is suppose all the power to the unit! It's not. Windows chooses a driver for it but it recognizes it as an unknown device! Any ideas????

There is a lot of info missing that might help, e.g. operating system, the brand names of the cdrw, case and computers you are using.

My generic advice on USB devices is, if you are plugging into a hub, try plugging into the computer's ports directly. That will sometimes take care of power problems. Also, unplug all other USB devices. Since you are having trouble on 2 different computers though, I suspect such steps will not be sufficient, but you can try them if you haven't already. Good luck.
