External IDE raid possible?

Id like to move my hard disks outside of my case and place them in an external case as raid. Has anyone come up with an inexpensive solution for that. All I can think of right now is get an addition mini-tower case and ide racks and then bring an ide cable out of my comp.case and into the minitower. There are certain cosmetic and physical limitations for ide cable that is long enough for that.. Any suggestions?
 
That's about your only option that I know of. If I remeber correctly IDE is limited to something like 40" total cable length.
