external HDD wont show up... cant change drive letter. quick help?

doesnt show up on My Computer, so i went to disk management and went to assign it a letter, but cannot.

help?

windows 7 btw

Why can't you assign it a drive letter through the Disk Management tool? If it ain't showing up, check the Safely Remove Devices system tray icon to see if it's listed. If not, try unplugging it and plugging it back in. Sometimes when I use USB, my drive won't show up the first time for whatever reason... I think it's even happened with eSATA. A quick replug and I'm good to go.
