i got one of these for Christmas - http://www.eagletechusa.com/Pr...AID.asp?Product_ID=177

i'm on an asus p5k-e wifi.

i have an older external usb hd hooked up and working fine. usb mouse now doing fine as well. i hook this thing up and it wants windows drivers. disk with the unit only came with win98 drivers; says the others should be strictly with the mobo. i don't see any usb driver specific downloads on asus's page. when i do an automatic search for a driver windows doesn't find any.

when plugged in now under device manager i get a other devices? usb device? indicator.

how do i make this hd work !!? please help !

Mike,

That's System Manager you showed us... Check Disk management in My Computer, Manage, Disk management. While the extrenal is running, does it show up there?

Mike,

I just re-read the specs on your external... I assume you plan to do an external RAID HDD set-up.

Since this is a RAID external, you need to go into your BIOS and set up a RAID configuration. That's why they say the mobo has the drivers... Have you tried that? Did you install RAID drivers when you installed Windows? Maybe they are available on the mobo CD, put it in your CD drive and check it out.

Also since this mobo has an Intel chipset, you may need to install the drivers when installing Windows (at the F6 prompt). If all else fails, try that next. That would probably mean a repair install is in order AFTER you select RAID in the BIOS.

How did you set your jumpers?

Near the SATA data connections are two sets of jumpers, which is how the system is configured to access the hard drives. The default position set the drives for RAID 0 (Striping), and when you close the other jumper and open the default jumper you will configure the device for JBOD (Spanning). There is a third setting, no jumper on either. This setting will enable the device for use with a single hard drive.

Mike,

I didn't see a response to this previous post of mine. Did you install RAID drivers? I would assume the instruction manual would tell you about installing RAID drivers...

EDIT, there is a FAQ on that web site you gave us under the Support tab. Have you checked that? Also you can contact their tech support and ask them questions. If all else fails, send it back...
