external HDD enclosure

Whats a decent HDD enclosure. I just want something that will let me throw a regular 3.5" hdd into an enclosure and use it without having to format the drive or anything of that nature. I looked through newegg but the price varies a huge amount and I really have no clue which ones are decent and which aren't.

Thanks!

This is a nice one:

I have that exact enclosure and it's awesome. I have a 300GB Seagate IDE drive in there. NO probs at all after about 4 months of continuous use.

Formatting the drive is super easy. After you install the HD into the enclosure, plug the USB cable into your PC. Windows will recognize the HD. Right click My Computer\Manage\Disk Management. You will see your new HD but there will be no partitions. Right click in the area showing your free space on that drive, select New Partition and go from there. 🙂

I recommend the above-linked enclosure. So many positive reviews, including mine, can't be wrong.

i've had that same enclosure for about a month and it has been working wonderfully. I think the best thing is that is has a built in fan, and it is almost silent.

I prefer 5 1/4" enclosures for HDs, since you get more room for air movement inside.
I also prefer the enclosures that don't require external power adapters.
