external HD to use with Win9x, XP, Win7

I want to use one external HD to back up a collection of computers for my church.

There are some Windows 9x machines, one XP, and the newest is Win 7.

If I format the HD to FAT32 with the Win 7 machine be able to write and read from it?

Also, note that you can format drives larger than 32GB in FAT32, and Windows will read and write to them fine. That was an artificial, "please stop using FAT," limit. Just do it from a Mac, cell phone, tablet, Linux box, etc..

Thanks for the answers you folks gave me.

It looks like I only have to deal with XP and Win 7 so I will use NTSF.

But the Seagate HD I have has it's own Disk Wizard software, and I wonder if I wouldn't just be better off formatting it for use directly through Windows Explorer?

thanks in advance, RW

Yes. If you want that included software back, I *think* they make it available for download.
