I tried numerous external drive that runs off USB, mostly wd mybook & etc. They wont recognize on 2003, wd's official stand is that it wont run.

I know firewire works but not every server comes with firewire port.. just curious if anyone has found one, from seagate or wd that works with server 2003.

I just need it for local weekly backup.. nothing major

Yeah, I've used dozens of USB drives on various Server 2003 installs over the past several years and never had a problem recognizing them.

Is there a SPECIFIC WD model that you've tried that wouldn't work?
