Hello,

I have been looking for a good external HDD which I would also like to use it as a backup for my win 98 old pc along with the XP ones I have. Most of the good ones from Deage and WD probably do not have drivers for win 98. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.. honest

Most will have the dirvers for Win98 (esp Hispeed USB ones) as 98 didn't come with them and depending on how old the Puter is (over a few years) it'll prolly just run on USB1.1

ByteCC enclosures (newegg.com sells for $20-35) come with Win98SE (Second Edition) drivers. Put in one of your old drives and you're set.

Many prebuilt ones probably have Win98SE drivers you can download even if no CD is included with the drive. Check the manufacturer websites.

Thanks LED,

Actually the Puter :) does support USB 2.0. But I was confused as most of these mention supporting Win 98SE onwards. Will check it out.

Thanks Dave,

Using enclosures might turn out to be suitable for me as I would be able to use the win 98 HD which I am planning ot replace. I hope I can find an enclosure with firewire support.

Thanks.. honest

honest...I use the same method as Dave staed as do many of us because you can switch out the HD and if you get a bigger enclosure (5 1/4) then Optical drives can go in as well.

There are many out there {Google USB+Firewire Enclosure} butHere's one just cause it matches your Handle ;)
