The best ones are:

Both USB and Firewire. Self-powered. Easy to open and change drives. And, those are usually both Mac and PC compatible. This is only an example - not a recommendation:

Mind if I hijack/tag along?

I've been looking for one to go with a 400GB IDE hdd.

- USB/Firewire either is fine.
- PC
- Just for storage
- Fan cooling would be nice. (Worry about overheating)

If you have eSATA capability, then yes - definitely the best choice.

The vantec unit includes an internal > external eSATA slot card, so even if the mb doesn't have dedicated eSATA, you can simply tap into an existing on board standard SATA port.
