i have a laptop ans spending 200$ for 30 more gigs isnt my thing

so ive been wondering why not get like an external drive?

yet im pretty sure this laptop is only 1.1 are the external cages and drives downgradeable to 1.1 from 2.0?
or well i experience lag or worst of all no compatibility or no connection?
