I've got a very annoying problem with my two external HDs.
I've got two identical internal Western Digital WD200s (both have their jumpers set to "Cable Select" mode) in these USB 2.0 + Firewire enclosures: http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=17-155-212&depa=0
If you care or it matters the rest of my computer configuration is detailed here: http://www.zonedguy.com/computer.html
Now, I had these exact same HDs in the exact same type of enclosures and they worked great (aka at the same time). Then my universal power supply blew up and fried the old enclosures. The HDs survived and I got two new enclosures. I now however cannot get them to operate at the same time. I would like them to both run off of my otherwise unused firewire ports and currently have them plugged in this way. I've tried plugging one into firewire with one into USB, with the same problem. Ditto for USB and USB.
My problem is this:
When I turn on one of the enclosures, the drive pops up in Windows and I am able to interact with it with absolutely no problem at all. When I turn on the 2nd enclosure, Windows sounds the "device connected" sound, but the drive does not pop up and the other one begins to show the error message that "X:\<blahblah blah> is not accessible. The specified network resource or device is no longer availalbe." At this point, the 1st HD still shows in Windows, but repeats that error message and the 2nd HD does not show up or work.
When a single drive is turned on it is labelled in the Device Manager as "Prolific PL3507 Combo Device -1394-ATAPI rev1.10) IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device" The devices never show up as anything else, nor at the same time.
Anyone have any suggestions?
