eSATA and USB, yes. I have three Vantec NexStar 3 cases with SATA drives that are either eSATA or USB. However, they must be separately powered because they are 3.5" drives. Only 2.5" drives can be USB powered, and many of them require 2 USB connections.

I use this drive which has USB 2.0 and esata. Bought it 2 years back working without problems. Too bad its out of production. The best thing you can do is to buy an enclosure.

The Acomdata Tango is not available in Europe (or the shipping cost is very high)

I'm looking for 2.5" dirves since they can be powered by USB only.

I found a RaidSonic IB-266StUS-B which seems to be the only one availabe in Denmark. I'll probably match it with a Seagate momentus 7200.4 500Gb

I'm just planning on using it for backup and data transfer, so it will probably not be plugged in all the time.

That's the way mine are. Plugged in but not turned on all the time. I only mention that because USB power tends to be somewhat erratic and unreliable. With the off board power, hot plugging (on and off) is very reliable.)
