External hard drives not showing up under W7 Explorer

I added 2 disks to an external enclosure, and whenever I connect it, W7 detects the device but none of the drives actually show in Explorer. All my other external drives show up in explorer. I am not sure what's going on here.

The enclosure is a Fantom Drive set in JBOD mode, it connects through Firewire or USB. The drives are two exact Seagate drives I pulled from a WHS machine. I can actually see the drives in the disk management utility, and reformatted them with exFAT, but they still wont show up in explorer.

I have done this procedure a zillion times when adding hard drives to my rig, and they always showed up in explorer. Help?

Ive seen this problem reported by one or two others in these forums, but cant recall the solution. Ensure that the drives are mounted (properly?).

Someone who knows how to fix your issue will eventually come on line to help.

Okay... I tried plugging it back into my WHS machine and nothing would show up either. I then plugged the enclosure in my MBP, and OSX saw both drives right away. I ran disk utility and reformatted both drives, and they now work properly under windows.

I think I fixed it, but I'd still like to know what was causing this how to fix this under windows.

You should have checked and seen if they were assigned a drive letter/mount point in disk management.

I have had this happen before too, for some reason if i have multiple flash or external hard drives plugged in, sometimes windows does not release the drive letter properly and have to manually add the letter back
