External hard drive problem

I recently purchased a Rosewill external case and a Seagate 500GB hard drive. When I went to hook it up (through usb 2.0, not eSATA), it shows up in device manager but I am unable to transfer any data. It does not show up in my computer or explorer. Any thoughts?

Does the external case have its own power source? OK - I see that it does. I would get an eSATA card and try it tht way. 500 GB is a bit of a muchness for USB throughput. Oh - is the drive formatted?

You have to initialize your disk. Go to Computer Management>Disk Management and follow the prompts to initialize and format it, and create partitions if you want.
