I bought this drive Here
When I plug it in is detects it but it does not install properly or show up on the my computer screen.

I have win xp home. How do I install this thing? Thank you

You need to go to Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management, then right click on the slab of unallocated black chunk of unformatted new ext. HD, and format/partition the sucker. The formatting/partitioning wizard window will come up. Follow directions and you're done.

the model number on the drive is hds722525vlat80 if that helps.
I moved the jumper from master to slave and that did no help, it made the light on the drive red instead of green so it must be on master, i guess.

I would first make sure that everything is connected snugly and that the drive is spinning up. If that doesn't work and it still doesn't show up in Disk Management I would try it in another computer.

I know those numbers, here it is translated in to english:
HDS= Hitachi Desk Star
72= 7200rpm
25=250gb
vlat= IDE
80= 8mb Cache
This is a hitachi IDE ATA-100 internal drive.

Try Setting the jumper to cable select, and make sure you dont set the jumpers for cutoff.

Setting the jumpers to cable select still does the same thing; The drive is detected but not installed properly and it does not show up anywhere on any screen.
