External Hard Drive No longer Working

For some reason my external hard drive was working yesterday, and is not working today. It is a NexStar by Vantec. Windows will pop up its autoplay thing, but unlike before i don't see it go through any folder names. Then that window will disappear and in My Computer it shows that there is another hard drive connected, but it will not display the hard drive name as it did before, just Local Disk. Then when i double click it, My Computer will freeze.

I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 2.

when i try the command dir G: in CMD i get the error

data error cyclic redundancy check

been doing some more research and thought this would be of note

the last operation I was doing I was unraring a .img file

I'm not sure, but the first thing I would check would be it's power supply. If that worked, next I would try installing the hard drive in my computer to see if the hard drive or the enclosure is the problem.
