Hi,

I was looking for a guidance on a good exernal hard drive to buy, and found this post:

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=27&threadid=1571711&enterthread=y

The post talks about buying a case and an internal HD and building your own external.

Does anyone have a "Dummies" guide for this? I've never done it before so if you can recommend the needed parts and a link to a how-to guide that would be great.

Looking for it to be a 200+ Gig MP3 repository.

Thanks

it's easy... you just buy a 3.5" usb enclosure, open it up, connect the hd, close it, connect the usb cable and your OS should show the drive automatically.

Is there any way I could cluelessly screw it up?

Also seeking advice for recommended items & good deals, where to buy, etc.
Would be nice if the whole thing were quiet.

When the drive says ATA133 does it mean my PC needs to be running at ATA133 or just that my motherboard can support ATA133 or is it something I don't even need to worry about?

My PC has 2 serial ata 160G drives in raid 0, but I'll have to check what the ata # is.

Thanks

the only way you could screw it up is if you cluelessly threw the hard drive against the wall

I got an enclosure arriving today. It's a Rosewill from NewEgg.com that ran about $32.00 being that I supply my own HDD, which is a 120 GB internal that will get converted into a external one with USB 2.0 connection.

http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/SubCategory.asp?SubCategory=92 Direct link.

Another way to get the external enclosures is go to Computer Hardware-> Cases from the NewEgg's site and that'll get you there.
