External hard drive enclosure

It's a rosewill rx32 external enclosure for internal hard drives. stick in the drive, plug in the usb and thats it right? wrong!...apparently. All the drivers for usb/usb 2.0 are for mac, win98 or win me. anyone know of a generic driver i can use for this? also even without a driver shouldnt windows detect the usb device? thanx!!

nevermind it works with another hard drive, but the other drive it wouldn't work with has some stuff i really need, is it dead?? =[

An easy way to find out is to connect it internally as a slave to your system drive and see if it is "seen."

I bet you it's not getting enough power. The hard drive that works probably uses less power and that's why it works.

i tried the "freezer trick" and by golly it is working as i type this. i'm copying the entire (frozen) drive onto my computer's master. what a neat little trick!

the freezer trick is like a final deathbed confessional for the drive =] You put the drive in an anti-static bag, then in a waterproof zip-lock baggie. Toss it in the freezer for a few hours. Then quickly hook it up to your computer and backup your stuff asap! Once it warms up the condensation usually kills the drive. Or even better, if you have an external drive enclosure (good thing i had one!) it'll work longer if you keep it cold...i put one of those blue ice things on top of the drive thru the anti static bag. This is a "last resort" kinda thing since it kills the drive but hey I didn't shed any tears for a 4gb hd =p
