My friend has a puzzling problem.

There are 2 external hard drives, one full of music, one empty. He wants to copy all the music from the full drive to the empty drive. Here is what he says:

"For some reason, when that other drive detects my empty, it prevents itself from being read. It actually closes out some of it's own files... If I plug it in after my empty drive is already plugged in, my computer wont even recognize it. The wierd part is when I plug the full drive in first, I can explore all the music. Once I add the empty drive to the usb, The full drive starts to shut it's files down. I keep hearing little "pops" and the full drive stops showing songs in files, sub files in master files, etc. It is so wierd. I took them to Comp USA and talked to the guy who taught me how to build my drive and he plugged them in. No problem. He showed me that the files were transferring. Said nothing wrong. So I took it home and got the same result as before. My computer at work did the same thing as the one at home. I'm thinking it has to do with the settings on my usb ports or the hardware in the USB ports. But why does the one at work do the same thing?"

Any help would be appreciated, since I have never heard of anything like this!

Looks like you are simply over taxing your USB available voltage too much. Try it through as powered hub and it should be OK.
