External hard drive as main drive?

I bought the metal gear box external hdd enclosure and put in an already formatted HDD with data on it. Now i know its working, and its working well, but every time i restart the computer i have to go into computer managment and reinitialize the drive in disk manager. I dont want to have to do this. Is there any way that i can make it so that when the hdd is plugged in and turned on it will automatically be recognised and turn into the E: drive? I notice that it is currently a dynamic volume, should i convert it to a basic, will that result in loss of data? Any input is appreciated.

A couple of questions: what OS?, How is ext. drive connected to computer?, and Is this a configuration supported by the OS and by mobo and drive?
It might be something as simple as setting that device to be the first (or only) boot device.
