External flashes for Digital Cameras?

I have a digital camera and need to get an external flash for it for when I take pictuers at weddings and banqutes and such when there's not much light. The camera has a PC Sync port on it, but I know nothing about flashes to know where to begin looking or how much to expect to pay or anything else.

Can anyone recommend me any digital camera sites that talk about this or any other information? I'd like a setup where you can mount the camera and flash to a central handle part (hope that makes sense) instead of having to hold the flash manually.

Thanks.

JUst get a big spot light and turn it on right at the same instant you take the picture.

No seriously, do you have a flash hot shoe on the top of your camera? If not, you are probably out of luck.

Get a flash that has a slave mode and use it. It will flash as soon as the other flashes go off.
