Is there one?

I need to do some light video editing, but I don't want to buy a specific VIVO card. My MB has firewire so thats ok. Now I just need a "box" that has at least composite in and that I can connect to my firewire port!

Any help appreciated!!!

If there is such a beast, you'll likely spend more on it than by just getting a VIVO card. Your best bet here is either to get an add-on TV/Capture card like the Leadtek 2000XP Deluxe over at Newegg, or something like thisPinnacle Systems USB Plus. Either of these should suit your needs fine.

There is such a beast, its called a digital camcorder. Something like a Canon ZR40 has analog connectors, and will convert to DV format and pass it to your HD via firewire. ~$400.

I don't reccomend the usb version. I have the ati usb tv wonder sitting on a shelf. There is a lot of dropped frames. From what I have read that was common because of the bandwidth of usb. If the pinnacle is usb 2.0 then you should be alright however I didn't see usb 2.0 anywhere on that page.

Before you order it I HIGHLY suggest you go over to DVDrhelp.com (formerly VCDhelp.com) and look at user comments.

Capture device comments by real world users.

Direct Link to the Dazzle Hollywood DV bridge comments. Haven't used one myself so I'll leave you to judge it by what others say.

Direct Link to comments about the Canopus ADVC-100 DV bridge. This is what I have and it works beautifully. Never locked up, never stops stutters or goes out of synch. Runs cool to the touch after being on for days as well. Costs a little more (not much anymore), but it's bulletproof. Scores a 9.4 out of 10 after 81 comments, I'm not the only one satisfied.
