External fax modem

Occasionally, I send a fax from my PC. This happens so rarely, that I'd rather not waste a PCI slot for it. So, even though I already have a PCI modem card, I would like to get an external one.

I searched and all I find are more expensive than I expected. They are in the $30-70 range. Why? Is there still demand for these? I thought almost everyone would be using high-speed modems these days.

Could you make suggestions please?

Thanks!

The prices reflect lack of demand and thus lower production levels that in the past.

Try ebay? I'm sure u won't mind having a cheap used one if you're just gonna be sending the occasional fax.

It's not cheap, unless you need a printer also, but my HP AIO has a FAX function. The only problem with it, is that since it appears that you are still on dialup, like myself, it's only good for sending FAXes, not receiving them...since it has to share a telephone line with the modem. For an external FAX modem, I would recommend the USR 5686E...but it's not cheap either.
