external enclosures that doubles as a stand alone divx player

To the wise,

Just by accident, I discovered there are such devices as external enclosures that can output divx/mpg/mp3 directly to a tv. But I'm completely clueless as to what my options are... Can you guys recommend anything?

I would like something from somebody reputable so that I get firmware updates to accommodate future video formats. Different output variety could also be useful since I'm probably upgrading my old tv to a HD sometimes next year (I don't know if these devices are picky about where they are outputting). I don't care about HDD interface but I guess SATA internal interface would be better as it is getting hard to find PATA drives.

Thanks,

E

LOL we had the same reaction. There's also one which can be found by searching mg-35. Another one is called tvisto 3500. These all support "HD". There's also ones that mention nothing about HD. Some of these have ethernet ports so you can transfer files using that or watch something on the computer directly. I just thought these are really cool so I want to ask around if people have any experience.

3.5 Inch Multimedia HDD Player

I bought one of these from my local computer market about 2 months ago for $100AUD.
Brought it home, put a 60G HDD I had laying around and I transfer divx movies onto it by usb2.
It sits next to the home theatre system (which it is plugged into by rca's) it can be controlled by the supplied remote or by the buttons on the front using the lcd.
Nice and portable for holiday trips for the kids (in case it pours with rain).
It does pics and mp3's and stuff too but I just use it for movies.
I love it.
