external enclosure sugestions

I am looking to get 2 external enclosures to plug into my laptop. I was one that will house a 200 gb hard disk and one that will hold a dvd burner. I want them to be as quite as possible and i would also prefer to be able to stack them for desk space. I am looking for some sugestions please. thanks for your help.

Many here seem to like Bytecc enclosures. I suggest one with both USB and Firewiere interfaces. Their 5.25 drive cases come with 3.5" drive adapters so you can use the same one for either and the will stack.

have you ever used this enclosure? i want to make sure whatever one that i get is as quite as possible? anyone else use one and really like it? thanks

I don't think that TDK enclosure is partucluarly well-designed for stacking and it lacks a fan and a filler plate for when using with a hard drive. But at that price (about $25. shipped), I suppose things can be worked around. I guess a set of taller rubber feet might make it stackable and a fan could be rigged into it somehow... I see one other site (per froogle) that's selling the same item for $22. but shipping might boost the price over the other.

Even though t his one is quite expensive, it has a high rating from buyers at Newegg and it meets all your criteria: External Housing

Ideally you want an enclosure with a BOTTOM fan that blows IN. There's only a few out there like that. I made my own: fan on bottom and it's an enclosure that can also house optical drives, so it has a removable front and there I put one of those 3 x 40mm fan bay coolers, and I put a grill in the top for exhaust. People and manufacturers seem to forget the hottest part of a HD is its underside. Most enclosures only have a tiny weak rear fan that's really only for cooling their internal power supply! Many enclosures that use an external PS don't even have fans! So watch for those things. Also don't forget their PS's may not be powerful enough for extra fans. My bottom fan is an AC fan that I have wired directly to the AC coming into the unit.
