External Enclosure and Internal HD

Since you only need a USB enclosure, get these two instead. The PowMax enclosure looks like ass, and their company isn't exactly the pinnacle of reliability. SATA won't offer any performance advantage over USB 2.0.

Getting a fast drive is a waste for an external drive unless you are willing to get an eSata card for your PC (they have them for both PCI and PCI Express) too. eSATA is the fastest external HDD rig right now for reasonable money. But you won't be able to take your drive from one machine to another if your extgernal enclosure is only eSATA. If you don't need to shuttle between computers with your data it doesn't matter, but if you do you will want an external enclosure that supports both eSATA and USB2 interfaces.

Thank you for the heads up. Does anyone else have an opinion on these new ones or others they would like?

IF you want to go with the eSATA interface (requires an eSATA port on your PC), I got this one from the Egg:

AZIO Enclosure

It has both eSATA and USB2 interfaces, and accepts a SATA II drive. They also make ones with Firewire 400 (IEEE 1394a) and USB2 dual interfaces. For about $10 less they have ones with USB interfaces only. And I think there are ones for IDE drives instead of SATA - there most certainly are from other makers, if not from AZIO.
