I am thinking about adding a dvd-rom to my laptop. My laptop is only a P120 with 72MB ram. Is it too slow to play dvds? Also how much would adding one cost me?

I think DIVX is harder on the CPU than MPEG2. They do make hardware MPEG2 decoders for laptops, so that might be an option...

My K6-2/350 lost frames when playing DVDs in software mode.

You P120 would be a slide show, sorry man :(

They make Type II or III PCMCIA cards that are the Laptop equivilant of a hollywood plus though. That should probably work....an H+ has a listed requirement of a P133 so you aren't that far under spec. Might work.
