External DVD - FireWire optimal?

Guys,

I'm looking at an external DVD burner for my daughter (IBM R40 laptop, USB2.0, FireWire). Is there an advantage to going w/ a unit that includes a FireWire connection? I'm wavering between building a unit (buying an external enclosure and an internal drive) and buying an external kit. It appears that the kit is the way to go vs. buying components, price-wise (if the component external case has FireWire). However, most of the kits I've looked at have USB2.0 connection only.

So, is it worth the extra $$ to get a unit w/ FireWire connections?

TIA,

Jeff

I wouldn't bother with firewire. Sure get a combo drive if you can find an enclosure, but USB2.0 is almost as fast and will work with any computer. Firewire is just non existent on the PC side of things, and unless she is going to burn 100's of DVD's a week.... is she going to notice an extra 30 seconds of time during a burn?

Guys, thanks for the replies. Twsmit, that must be why I see many more USB2.0 units than combination USB2.0/FireWire.
